Really interesting article. However, I have 2 things I need to discuss:

1) Is FoW absolutely needed in this archetype?
2) Let's say that FoW is not that needed, shouldn't we discuss Aether Vial? I think Aether Vial is a great card that helps a lot against many bad matchups.

I've seen all the recent list posted on The Source that are packing a bunch ( 2-5) creatures to protect iona. Today I played for second time Iona / loyal and I have to say that was a really amazing. I played a list more oriented to be able to beat aggro and not depending very much on Survival.

But I'll try a list like yours because it feels to me that runing spellsutter and kira could be great to beat some dificult match ups like zoo or merfolks.

In your main I'll only take out trygon since I fell it's some times slwoly for this type of deck ( I've already tried but without iona). And in the side I don't really like the spell pierce but looking that you have strong counters like snare and spellstutter I would try it.

I hope you write more articles for legacy.

A few people have experimented with Natural Order (and Counterbalance) in Survival decks (and Survival sideboards) but it really just adds more cards that you don't need to the deck. Survival + Loyal Retainers/Iona is going to have a more important effect on the game most of the time, and fits within your shell.

Most of the Bant variants including Natural Order have more ways to protect it and force through the combo (either Threshold Tempo Bant or Counterbalance Bant).

I could see including it in the sideboard as a way to offset opposing hate that opponent's would bring in for Survival of the Fittest, but I'm not sure what matchups it would make better to make it really worth siding in. For example, against a deck like Merfolk you're going to have to resolve a 4 mana spell (playing through Daze and Force and potentially Spell Pierce out of the sideboard), and if you do resolve Natural Order in that matchup Progenitus doesn't do anything to control the opponent from beating you down with a bunch of Islandwalking 4/4 or 5/5 dudes. I think you'd be better suited by attacking with the opponent to stop what they're trying to do (with Llawan, in that example). I could be wrong though. I'll test it more.

What an excellent article Jason!

I'm mainly a combo player in Legacy and this kind of articles gives me a better understanding of my opponent's decks, in this case Bant Survival.

I personally can't add much to your decklist or card choices. You've reasoned every card according to your own criteria based on huge experience and knowledge of the format.

I have the feeling that most bant decks now are packing Natural Order/Progenitus as any Vintage deck (running blue) would do with Tinker/Robot. Have you considered adding 2 Natural Order + 1 Progenitus as a plan B for an alternate win condition?
