Japanese altered Mana Drains by Yawg07

Gus Schade, aka Yawg07 on most of the forum boards, keeps surprising us with his awesome alterations. It’s not the first time we’ve shown some “japanized” cards by Gus, you should check his previous jobs here. This time he’s commissioned some cards for Mike Solomossy. Awesome as usual!

And, as a bonus track:

Gratz Soly for your new cards!

  • Are those cards legal in tournaments?

  • enrique:

I guess no, cos the card type has been removed/altered.

  • I can’t really tell if they are or aren’t tournament legal. The name has been changed, same as the card type, etc… BUT, the card is 100% recognizable. Having some text changed isn’t really the issue, for example, I’ve played my altered Yawgmoth’s Will and my Fact or Fiction on both Eurovino3 and GP Madrid Side Event. Both have the names altered but the cards are recognizable and aren’t permanents, therefor the head judges allowed me to play with them.

In this case, best would be to ask the Head Judge.

  • LazZo:

This guy is teh f*cking boss!

    めっちゃすごいいなーーー!!!

  • MonS:

they are not legit in tournament anyway, because the name and text has been altered…

  • Gus Schade (yawg07):

Actually, it hasn’t been. That still says the exact same thing as it did before.

  • Gus Schade (yawg07):

Well sure, I ‘altered’ the text, but I didn’t change anything.
The translation is correct through several people. I don’t just slap some random characters on there.
I’ve done many alterations with the name and text altered. No one reported any problem to me with playing them.
As long as it is recognizable, most Judges will let you play them.

Besides, Vintage is VERY lax about that sort of thing.
There are so few true sanctioned events, and at a proxy event … who cares? If they say “that’s not a legal drain” just say “its my proxy then!”

  • I couldn’t agree more with what Gus just said :D
