The day I met mr. Iggy Pop
Well, not really, but this is the story on how I got the pimpest playset of Ill-Gotten Gains ever.
It’s well known my passion for combo decks in Legacy. Most of my success in this format is thanks to the well known Iggy Pop and my iPop Negation decks. The Iggy Pop deck takes this name from the card Ill-Gotten Gains. In the process of pimping my deck to the maximum, I managed to get a playset of Japanese Ill-Gotten Gains, but that wasn’t enough for me. I tried contacting Greg Staples to get’em signed, but I got no luck with him. So, what could I do about it?
An idea landed my head: Contacting the singer Iggy Pop to get my playset of Ill-Gotten Gains signed.
Mr. Iggy Pop
First thing I made was to search on the net how to contact him. It wasn’t easy at all. After joining several fan clubs (like a teenager would do with Britney Spears), I managed to get in touch with the leader of the official Iggy Pop fan club. Several mails were required in order to finally get the contact mail of mr. Mark Walters (manager of Iggy Pop). First of all, let me thank you Monica for making this step possible!
I sent a first mail to Mark Walters explaining a bit what my intentions were: “Sending some staples for mr. Iggy Pop to sign, and then he should send them back”. Never got a mail back from Mark for like a month or so, but I insisted and sent some more, and finally I got his answer. He was a bit curious about my mail, and wanted to know a bit more on what those staples were. Then I mailed him back and explained him a bit about MTG, and about this deck that carries Iggy Pop’s name. Also told him what it means to me to have those cards signed.
I got another mail from him saying the address I should send them to, and that he’ll do his best to get my cards signed. I bet he thinks I’m crazy!
As I got no news on whether or not he managed to send the cards back, I sent a final mail which never got answered.
I almost lost all hope on getting my cards back, I even bought a new playset of Japanese Ill-Gotten Gains to play with. BUT, for my surprise, when the postman came today, I recieved a letter from Mark Walters!
I opened and this is what I found inside:
This is probably my biggest achievement when it comes to this “pimp” trend that we’ve created. Getting cards signed at events or sending cards to artists was easy compared to all the time and hope invested on getting this cards signed.
What’s next? Getting them signed by Greg Stapples! Impossible is nothing!

Pero que fumas loco? estaba echandole un vistazo a tu peich de productos y veo que tienes un Ill Goten por 250€ LoooL? Tanto cuesta el foil , el japo y que tenga una firma de un pive que ni siquiera tiene que ver nada con Magic? LoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooL
Debes andar bien jodido de pasta y tener mucha mucha fe si quieres venderlo a ese precio.
Te recomiendo leas la historia que hay detrás de ese playset de Ill-Gotten Gains. Y si ya lo hiciste y aún no entiendes el precio de la carta es pq quizas realmente no sepas valorar el valor de coleccionismo que tiene una pieza firmada por el señor Iggy Pop.
Por lo demás, ni fumo, ni estoy loco ni ando corto de pasta.
Pues hombre, teniendo en cuenta que el valor lo pones TU, a lo mejor es que te sobras un poco poniendole precios a las cosas y tirandote el moco con historietuflas, que dependen unica y exclusivamente de tu palabra y con ello inflas el precio de tus cartas.
Pero vamos un poco enfermizo si que andas, aunque mas enfermo estara el comprador de la misma. Es como si hago que me firmen una patata de carta cualquier guitarrista o cantante al que le monto conciertos, luego cuento una historieta muy bonita, y despues la vendo por 250 euros. Me parece totalmente lol.
Y de todas formas, mandarle unos mails a alguien famoso para que te firme las cartas es algo que lo puede hacer CUALQUIERA.
Eso si, decirle a Mark walters e iggy pop que para ti significaria muchisimo que te firmasen las cartas para que ahora las estes empezando a vender, es lo mas pestuzo que he visto en mi vida.
El pensaba que estabas loco. Yo tb lo pienso, pero con matices de para mal. Encima no necesitas la pasta, por que las vendes, por avaricia?

Entiendo perfectamente tu indignación y respeto tu postura aunque no la comparta obviamente. Hay demasiadas diferencias entre cómo tú y yo entendemos este juego y cómo no eres capaz de entender mi postura jamás llegaremos a nada en común.
Puedes diferir en el contenido, pero lo que no debes es caer en el insulto barato y faltar al respeto por el mero hecho de no compartir una opinión.
Caer en el insulto barato, acabaramos, pero si es rancio timar a niños , mas rancio es timar a personajes famosos, diciendoles que significa mucho para ti, para que luego las vendas por vil dinero, no crees?
Sobre el coleccionismo, y el precio que le pones, es un poco al bulto, mas que nada porque no veo que seas comisario de productos de coleccionismo, ni nada por el estilo. Si me dijeras que trabajas en Sotterby o Christies o similares, o simplemente fueses comisario de galerias y coleccionismo, entenderia que pudieras evaluar objetivamente que precio ponerle, pero el precio que le pones es el precio que a ti subjetivamente te apetece ponerle o te conviene.
Ganar (o pretender ganar) 1000€ con un playset cuyo esfuerzo de conseguirlo te ha costado 4 mails a lo sumo, por mucha firma de Iggy pop que tenga, como minimo me parece altamente especulatorio y a nivel ético, bastante bajo.
Tu tampoco caigas en la demagogia de “oh, me estas insultando” porque no comparta en absoluto tu punto de vista y de mi opinion al respecto.
Lo que no entiendo es por que hay una discusión. Si no te gusta el precio no lo compras. No tienes por que criticarlo y mucho menos insultarlo, es que me parece totalmente absurdo lo que dices. Si él quiere contar como los consiguió en su blog, pues lo hace. Si le sobra un IGG que no va a usar y quiere venderlo para ganar dinero, no veo nada malo ni de “bajo nivel ético”.
Y si vale eso es por que en todo el mundo hay 4 iguales y los tiene él. Lo dicho, si no te gusta no se lo compres, pero no vengas aquí a insultarle y encima luego vayas de víctima, y encima sin dar la cara, vamos, como un machote ;D
